‘Sick Bacchus’ 2014 Oil on Canvas (Not for Sale)

This portrait of Bacchus the god of wine is a study based on the Michelangelo Merisi de Caravaggio painting, ‘Bacchus, god of wine’ 1593.

This painting was completed to study the human form, the technique of glazing to tie the colour palette together. This painting incorporates the use of transparent glazes tinted with viridian to add harmony to the palette and also to give the effect of a sickness. The painting was completed in four sittings and a number of glazed layers.
